Olá, hola, 你好, bonjour, hallo, g'day, hello!
I am Jonathan Poh
I'm a landscape, travel, and astro photographer near Setúbal in Portugal. I love travelling and seeing the world (22 countries and counting). I am always curious, seeking out interesting locations around Portugal and elsewhere, for capturing breathtaking landscapes, stunning sunsets, and ethereal Milky Way nightscapes, worldwide. I also point my camera and telescope to outer space, to capture images of nebulae and galaxies.
I started my photography journey many years ago, and have had a keen interest in photography for the past two decades. I learned about photographic composition, the exposure triangle, and the Rule of Thirds formally in my design studies at university, but also from my late father, Laurence Poh, who was an accomplished photographer himself. I've done a tonne of experimentation: low-light and astrophotography, long exposure, landscapes, streetscapes, nightscapes, macro, you name it.
I worked as a front-end UI/UX engineer for most of my working life, but lately, on reflecting how ephemeral the creation of websites is, I’ve been longing to make things - art - that is more tangible and lasting.  In 2022, I started looking back at my terabytes of photo libraries and realising the long journey I’ve been on, in all the places I’ve had the privilege to visit and live in. In observing the progression and growth of my photographic craft, I’ve decided I would  pursue this properly.
I currently focus on Landscapes and Astrophotography, but you can be sure I will continue experimenting and learning new techniques. With that, I hope to share my joy of photography with you, from my collections, as well as new projects in the future.
